COSTUME HUDDLE

In-Class Parent Meeting | Sept. 8–14

During Costume Huddle Week, we will hold a brief parent meeting during each class to review recital costumes and other important recital information.

Dancers should bring their full recital costume and all required accessories listed in the Costume Requirements below so the teacher can review the complete look.

A parent or guardian must be present for the Costume Huddle portion of class.

COSTUME REQUIREMENT KEY

  • Parted In middle, slicked back low bun w/ hairagami & net:

    Hair, including bangs, should be parted down the middle and neatly gelled back away from the face and eyes. To create a bun, pull hair tightly into a low ponytail with a neutral-colored hair tie, then use a Hairagami to form the bun. All buns must be secured with a hair net. Scrunchies, colorful hair ties, or headbands are not permitted unless included with the costume. Hairagamis used with a hair net are strongly encouraged. Hairagamis are available HERE.     Half up/half down & curled:

    Part the hair starting at the top of the ears. Pull the top portion of the hair back (including bangs) and secure tightly with a black or brown rubber band. Please make sure bangs are pulled back away from the face with gel and hairspray so that we can see the dancer's eyes. After hair is secured, curl the bottom half of hair.

  • Appropriate shoe colors are required. The brands listed are the brands we recommend and have available for purchase through the CVPA Boutique. (See our Shoe Collection.) If you need new shoes prior to the recital, please visit the CVPA Boutique ASAP so we can make sure what you need is in stock. If you do not see the type of shoe you are looking for, please let us know so we can order it for you.

  • Studio earrings are $12 per pair. Since we use the same earrings every year, once you have a pair, you’re all set for future recitals! They can be ordered by clicking HERE.

  • CVPA requires Revolution brand tights with all recital costumes to ensure a consistent color and appearance onstage. Tights must be clean, free of holes or runs, and purchased through the CVPA Boutique. Tights from other brands may be a different shade and will need to be replaced.

    Pricing: Footed $14 child / $17 adult • Footless $16 child / $19 adult.

    • Black No-Show Socks are available for purchase in the CVPA Boutique for $4 a pair. We have ADULT and KIDS sizes available.

    • Black Trouser Socks (knee-high length) are available for purchase in the CVPA Boutique for $8.95 a pair.

FINALE COSTUME

Your Recital T-Shirt is your Finale Costume!

Wear your recital T-shirt, which is included in your Recital Fee, with black shorts, black leggings, or a black leotard with black or skin-tone tights.

Intro to Dance students will wear their recital T-shirt over their costume.

BLING IT! Dancers may add rhinestones to their recital t-shirt. (Shop Rhinestones)

**Rhinestones may not be added to regular class costumes, unless you have been instructed to do so by the teacher.

GET RECITAL READY!

We're excited to ensure a wonderful experience for every dancer. To guarantee a uniform and polished appearance, kindly follow these guidelines:

Don’t forget to label all of your belongings!

  1. MAKEUP FOR DANCERS UNDER THE AGE OF 7: Apply red lipstick, blush, mascara, and natural-toned eye shadow. Keep the makeup subtle and avoid using blues, greens, or purples for eye shadow.

  2. MAKEUP FOR DANCERS AGES 8+: Makeup for dancers aged 8 and up should include red lipstick (MAC Ruby Woo for comp. teams), blush, eyeliner, mascara, and foundation. Stick to natural-color eye shadows. Consult your teacher if you have any questions.

  3. BOYS & MAKEUP: Boys are not required to wear makeup. If they are comfortable, a bronzer and eyeliner is highly recommended under stage lighting.

  4. HAIR: Hair should be in natural colors—please avoid orange, pink, purple, or green dye. If needed, hair paint can help cover any deviations.

  5. PIERCINGS: Please help maintain a uniform look by refraining from wearing extra piercings in ears, belly buttons, or noses. This ensures a streamlined and polished presentation on stage.

  6. NAILS: For a tidy and cohesive look, we ask dancers to have natural, short nails. Colored polish on nails should be avoided to uphold the performance's professional appearance.

  7. JEWELRY: In consideration of both appearance and safety, we ask that all jewelry, excluding required costume earrings, be removed BEFORE arriving at the theater. This includes rings, bracelets, necklaces, anklets, and any other additional accessories. Please be prepared to remove any non-costume jewelry before going on stage. Please understand that CVPA cannot assume responsibility for any lost jewelry during the recital. Your cooperation in prioritizing the safety of our performers is greatly appreciated.

  8. COSTUMES: Dancers participating in two or more dances must pack their costumes neatly in a garment bag labeled with their name. Accessories should be placed in labeled zip-lock freezer bags, including the dancer's name and dance title. Please ensure that all items are properly labeled.

  9. QUICK CHANGES: Students with quick changes are encouraged to bring a laundry basket labeled with their name on it so that the dressers can quickly collect and contain their costumes during fast transitions.

  10. SHOES: For a fresh and professional look, let's keep all dance shoes looking new and clean. Polished tap shoes make our dancers shine on stage! Dancers should arrive at the theater wearing street shoes. Please pack your dancer's dance shoes in their dance bag, along with extra makeup, bobby pins, and other necessities. Ensure that both the bag and shoes are properly labeled to avoid any mix-ups, ensuring that the shoes are returned to the correct bag.
